Private One on One Yoga Classes

Ancient Wisdom for the Modern World

The word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root yuj, meaning ‘to yoke,’ or ‘to unite’. The intention of a regular yoga practice is to create union between body, mind, and spirit, as well as between the individual self and universal consciousness. My private yoga sessions go beyond traditional poses, offering a holistic approach that integrates yogic principles with personalized life coaching to foster profound personal growth."

If you're seeking a deeper connection and true transformation, one on one sessions would be a great choice for you. My intention is to take you beyond a basic physical yoga class and actually teach you how to integrate yogic principles into your life every day. You don’t need to have any yoga experience at all. You are only required to make a commitment to yourself to move, expand and grow. Even if movement is difficult, you can still practice yoga through gentle modifications and restorative techniques. With time and consistency, you will see positive results. I’ve seen evidence of this with many of my students of all ages and body types. Those who have committed to a regular practice have made improvements not only physically, but they’ve also experienced improvements in all aspects of their lives.

Take a moment to read through the following. If any of these aspirations resonate with you, then we would be an excellent match to work together on your journey:

  • You have decided to start a yoga practice or expand upon an existing one.

  • Whether you are a brand-new beginner or are more experienced, you have a ‘beginner’s mindset’ and know that there is always more to learn and experience.

  • You would like to feel better physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.

  • You want to increase your flexibility and reduce tension in both your body and your mind.

  • You need to reduce pain due to weaknesses and imbalances in your body.

  • You have a desire for a more balanced life.

  • You are interested in personal growth, self-awareness, and spiritual development.

  • You recognize that yoga can be a pathway to uncovering limiting beliefs and energy blockages, allowing you to move forward in your life in a more mindful way.

  • You are willing to be committed to a yoga practice for your personal health and well-being.

What We'll Explore Together: Beyond the Basics

Along with physical movement and meditation, we will delve deep into yogic philosophy with customized courses and lessons designed to complement your practice and improve your life.

The Ancient Path of Yoga

Imagine a life where the constant chatter of your mind no longer dictates your peace. For thousands of years, the profound wisdom of yoga, passed down from teacher to student, has offered a path to achieve this very state. Students became teachers, passing the wisdom down to the next generation, and so on. An Indian sage named Patanjali is believed to have written down this wisdom in a book called the Yoga Sutras approximately 2500 years ago. He structured the practice of yoga, outlining eight limbs, or areas of practice, within the Sutras to overcome the mind's fluctuations.

These eight limbs are meant to be studied and applied simultaneously, each limb enhancing and supporting the others. The order in which they're presented is important to understand and practice. Each lays the foundation for the next, creating a path to peace and contentment.

This is the goal of yoga: to transcend the limitations and noise of the mind so we can realize our true nature and live a life of authenticity.

Your Personalized Exploration of the 8 Limbs: Your Eightfold Path to a Life of Peace & Well-Being

Week 1: The Yamas – Ethical Foundations (An Overview)

The Yamas are restraints, or principles for how we interact with ourselves and others. Practicing these five ethical guidelines enables you to live a life of peace and promotes a sense of well-being for you and those around you.

  • Ahimsa: non-violence, non-harming

  • Satya: not lying, truthfulness

  • Asteya: non-stealing

  • Brahmacharya: moderation, self-restraint

  • Aparigraha: non-attachment, non-hoarding

In your one-on-one session: We'll explore these foundational principles, discussing how they serve as a moral compass for your yoga journey and daily life. This session provides an insightful overview, laying the groundwork for deeper study.

Week 2: The Niyamas – Inner Cultivation (An Overview)

The five Niyamas focus on your internal relationship, guiding your conduct toward yourself. By observing these practices, you'll begin to notice their effect on your inner landscape.

  • Saucha: purity, cleanliness

  • Santosha: contentment

  • Tapas: heat generation, self-discipline

  • Svadhyaya: self-observation, self-study

  • Ishvara Pranidhana: surrender, allowing

In your one-on-one session: Discover how these practices empower your personal growth and deepen your self-awareness. This session offers a glimpse into how cultivating these inner disciplines can foster a sustainable sense of inner peace.

Deepen Your Practice: Explore the Yamas & Niyamas Further

My "Eightfold Path" series offers a valuable introduction to the timeless wisdom of the Yamas and Niyamas. For a more comprehensive dive, we will explore each one individually in the dedicated 10-Week Yamas & Niyamas Course. This in-depth program provides a complete immersion into each principle, offering tools, reflections, and practices for personal transformation.

Week 3: Asana – The Postures

Asana in Sanskrit means "seat." Traditionally, the practice of Asana was done in a comfortable seated position, aiming for a steady and comfortable posture for meditation. You don't need to know any yoga postures to begin your yoga journey! In your one-on-one session: We'll craft a personalized physical practice that supports your unique body and needs. You’ll learn how to approach postures with awareness, building strength, flexibility, and stability, all at your own pace.

Week 4: Pranayama – Control of the Breath or Breathwork

When you learn to control your breath, you will gain greater control over your emotions and your life, becoming less reactive to stress. The breath is the bridge between the mind and body, helping to anchor you into the present moment. In your one-on-one session: Experience powerful breathing techniques that can immediately calm your nervous system, enhance your focus, and bring a greater sense of presence to every moment.

Week 5: Pratyahara – Withdrawal of the Senses

As you learn to discipline your focus away from external sensory input, your attention naturally turns inward. You'll find yourself less distracted by external stimuli, discovering an inner place of stillness where you can truly connect with yourself. As you integrate this practice, your reactions will shift from habit to responses that are mindful, grounded, and peaceful. In your one-on-one session: Develop techniques to quiet the external noise, helping you cultivate a deeper internal awareness and respond to life from a place of inner calm.

Week 6: Dharana – Concentration

This is the practice of controlling and focusing the mind. You focus intently on one point – it could be your breath, a mantra, or a specific object – to the exclusion of all else. In your one-on-one session: Sharpen your mental focus through guided concentration practices, improving your ability to stay present and clear in a distracting world.

Week 7: Dhyana – Meditation

Meditation is a prolonged state of concentration. You achieve a state of meditation by finding a comfortable posture (Asana), refining your breath control (Pranayama), withdrawing your senses (Pratyahara), and cultivating focused concentration (Dharana). As you practice these limbs in harmony, you will naturally discover yourself in a state of meditation. In your one-on-one session: Learn to move beyond concentration into deeper states of meditation, experiencing the profound stillness and clarity that arise when these foundational limbs align.

Week 8: Samadhi – Complete Absorption

This is the ultimate goal of Yoga: to find a place of complete absorption where your body and mind are at rest, yet you remain fully conscious and alert. In your one-on-one session: We'll reflect on your journey through all eight limbs, discussing how to sustain this connection and carry the insights of what you have learned into your everyday existence.

Why Choose One-on-One Classes?

Introducing the Yamas & Niyamas: Your Foundational Keys to a Yogic Lifestyle

The Yamas and Niyamas, the first two limbs, are the foundation of your yoga practice and have NOTHING to do with moving your body.

I think of them as keys to unlocking doors to living your best life right now. There are ten of them, five Yamas and five Niyamas. Yamas are known as restraints, or "things not to do." Niyamas are observances, or "things to do."

These keys, as they're presented to you, are meant to be used to examine the effect of particular behaviors and ways of thinking. This process is intended to be done without judgment or labeling anything right or wrong. It's simply an opportunity to notice what's working for you and what isn't.

Through this process, you may uncover habits or ways of thinking that have kept you blocked or held you back from realizing your full potential. Once this awareness is developed, you can then choose to make changes or eliminate behaviors and habits that are limiting. You're essentially “unlocking” your potential and clearing the path toward your goals and intentions.

Your Journey Through this Course

The value you can create for yourself with this course is limitless. It's not meant to be hurried or even completed. This is a process you can do again and again. As you become more self-aware and experience inner growth, you'll discover that the work is never done. As you peel back one layer, another will appear. This is a lifelong practice.

You're being given the ancient keys to design your best life possible. It's up to you how you choose to use the knowledge and what you'll do with it.

Each key will be given its own module. You’ll receive a worksheet covering the main points of each key and recommendations on how to incorporate the teachings into your yoga practice and 'off the mat' in your daily life. My intention is for you to reflect and integrate—to “live with” each individual key fully before moving on to the next.

You'll need a journal and writing tools. Choose something you'll feel good about using. It can be a notebook, something nice from a bookstore, or even a sketch pad. Be creative! If you're artistic, you might be inspired to use color or doodle on the pages.

I also recommend getting a 3-ring binder with a clear front insert to hold your worksheets and notes. Get a piece of cardstock that fits the insert and decorate it with images, clippings, words, photos—anything that evokes a nice, uplifting, and motivating feeling when you look at it. It should represent what you wish to create in your life. This is, essentially, a vision board—a visual representation or collage of what you want to be, do, and have. It's a collection of pictures, words, drawings, or writing that illustrate your aspirations and what you want to become. Your vision board can be as simple or creative as you want it to be.

Create space in your life for the work required of this course. Get out your calendar and make appointments with yourself to reflect upon the lessons. Create space each day for journaling. Block out time and eliminate distractions for your sessions with me.

This is your life. Commit to yourself to be fully engaged in this process. Treat it with the respect and integrity you deserve.
